Sports Update: Feb 18
The Detroit Red Wings had a record setting night in the NHL, picking up their 22nd straight win on home ice after beating Nashville 2-1.
Elsewhere, Winnipeg doubled up on Boston 4-2 and the Oilers fell to the Avalanche 3-1.
In the WHL, the Red Deer Rebels edged the Kamloops Blazers 3-2 on the Road.
In Junior B the Blackfalds Wranglers took game one of their playoff series against Three Hills with a 3-2 win.
and in Senior Triple A Provincials, the Sylvan Lake Admirals dropped game one to Stony Plain by a score of 7-3.

Sports Update: Feb 12
A busy day in the NHL, The Calgary Flames hung on for a 3-2 shootout victory against their division rival Vancouver Canucks last night.
In the WHL, the Red Deer Rebels lost a wild one, 8-5 to the visiting Moose Jaw Warriors.
The Rebels now play 8 straight on the road.
in Chinook Hockey, the Bentley Generals lived to fight another day with a 6-3 win over Lloydminster.
The 3rd and final game of the league final series goes tonight at 5 in Lloyd.
and its the Final day of Alberta Winter Games in Spruce Grove.
Zone 4 representing Central Alberta has picked up 17 medals so far including a gold in Junior Ladies Freeskate by Ponoka's Mallory Rausch.

Sports Update: Feb 11
There were 4 games on NHL ice last night including The Detroit Red Wings taking their 19th in a row at home in a 2-1 victory over Anaheim.
The win ties the Red Wings with the 1970-71 Boston Bruins for the second-longest home winning streak in N-H-L history.
In the WHL, the Red Deer Rebels made it back to back shutout wins blanking the Kootenay Ice 2-0 in Cranbrook. The Rebels remain 4 points back of a playoff spot.
In college volleyball, the RDC Queens' 8 game winning streak was snapped last night, in a 5 set home loss to the NAIT Ooks.
The Kings, however, captured their 7th straight victory in a 5 set win over NAIT's mens team.
And Zone 4 Central Alberta has 5 medals at the Alberta Winter Games, including 3 gold.
Lacombe's Taylor Plante placed 7th in Artistic Gymnastics in the all-around event.

NHL action saw the Oilers win 5-4 in a shootout over the league-leading Detroit Red Wings. Sam Gagne followed up his 8 point night from Thursday with only 3 more last night.
Elsewhere, Vancouver topped Colorado 3-2 in a shootout as well, and Toronto shutout Ottawa 5-zip.
In the WHL, The depleted defensive core of the Red Deer Rebels was exposed for 4 first period goals in a 6-2 loss to Calgary.
in Chinook Hockey, the Bentley Generals punched their ticket to the league finals with a 4-2 win over Stony for the series sweep.
And Red Deer College Volleyball faced Augustana, the Queens were victorious 3 sets to none while the Kings took the win in 4 sets.
